* I have received a few emails and text messages asking me about the variety/cultivars of the Australian Madu. They can't find any information about it from the Internet. Of course there isn't any. This was my reply to the text message sent by Mr. Richard Wong Chiew Xing, from Sarikei, Sarawak, Malaysia - one of the first to order the AM cuttings.
"It's a long story..discussed for months among grapevine hobbyists here in W.Msia. Ok, to be frank wt u, 3 vines were imported frm Australia abt 10 yrs ago by a JV of 7 Cameron Highland tycoons, packed in a contenna, the whole tree - plan was to start winery. But the grape is sweet (haha, wrong choice!). Now planted only in a small, vry private land in CH. Fruit serve only during the company annual dinner. I managed to get the cutting tru a fren. I hv consulted 3 grape gurus frm Canada, US and UK to find out the cultivar/variety but to no avail. While still investigating, I gv it a temporary name..Australian Madu! :) I sold the young AM (3 months old) for RM130 excl postage, and nw out of stock".
And these were my conversations through email with Ms Sarah Bell from the Sunny Bank Vines Nursery, UK:
